Transition Activities Expected of Certified Organizations

Organizations are expected to undertake the following activities as part of their transition preparations:

  • Conduct a gap analysis: Compare the existing environmental management system with the requirements of ISO 14001:2026 to identify necessary updates.
  • Prepare a transition plan: Define activities, responsibilities, and completion dates.
  • Update the management system: Review documentation relating to the context of the organization, interested parties, environmental aspects, and risks and opportunities.
  • Inform personnel: Ensure that relevant employees have the awareness and competence required for the new requirements and revised practices.
  • Verify implementation: Evaluate the updated system through internal audits and management reviews.
  • Plan the transition audit: Contact Kioscert to ensure that the audit and certification activities are completed before the transition period expires.

How Will the Transition Audit Be Conducted?

The transition audit may be conducted in conjunction with a surveillance or recertification audit, or as a separate special audit.

The audit will assess the revised requirements of ISO 14001:2026, changes in the context of the organization, and updates made to the environmental management system. Any additional audit time required will be determined according to the extent of the changes and the type of audit.

Even if your certificate displays a later expiry date, ISO 14001:2015 certification will not remain valid beyond the transition period.

Do not wait until the deadline; plan your transition alongside your existing audit programme. For further information on the transition to ISO 14001:2026 and audit planning, please contact Kioscert Certification.
